What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
CCSU is recognized as a budget-friendly university with dedicated faculty and a walkable campus, offering a solid education. However, some students note underfunding in certain departments and potential limitations in course availability. The teaching program has also faced criticism for its demanding student teaching requirements.
"The budget option to UCONN. Still met some good professors and there's a ton of events you can attend if you don't have a day job.
Support resources are a bit lacking and some departments have very few professors. So if you don't like one, you can get stuck with them for several courses because they're the only one available for courses you need to take for your degree.
Also be mindful of what courses you take for each term, some courses are only available in specific terms or "irregularly" so plan carefully and loop in your department chair when needed.
CCSU has an underfunded feel, but it's also cheaper than other CT schools and not a bad option for students on a budget."

"I do not recommend their teaching program. It is poorly organized, and they expect you to quit your job in order to student teach, something that is simply unrealistic today. Instead of pushing people out of the profession, programs should be supporting the next generation of educators. They need to modernize, update their approach, and meet the needs of their students.
How can you tell someone to quit their job, and if they can’t pay rent, suggest they go to a homeless shelter? That is unacceptable."
Martin Herrera
"Very comfortable, nicely scaled college of ~5,000 full-time undergraduates, with broad academic offerings and a faculty focused on students and teaching first. Eminently walkable campus that is vibrant even on weekends with 2/3 of first-year students living on campus and 1/4 overall with lots of walkable private housing. Comprehensive athletics program from intramural to mid-major NCAA varsity sports with a bit of an “old school”, pre-big money feel. A little under the radar but it’s definitely worth a thorough visit. Do the tour but also sit in on a few classes, visit the library and the art museum, eat at Hilltop Cafe, you just might find your perfect college fit."
