What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the McLoughlin Historic District for its rich history and the engaging guided tours that bring the past to life. The beautiful grounds, especially in fall, and the unique connection to the Oregon City Municipal Elevator are also highlights. Some visitors note that the house itself is the primary focus, with surrounding areas offering complementary historical context.
"This is the home of John McLoughlin, although he is currently residing in a small ivy covered lot next to the house. There was a rumor that he had died, but given that he was well known to be a powerful wizard, well versed in both Celtic and Native American craft, the rumors of his death are greatly exaggerated. There is a small fountain next to the house, and a path that goes under the street, past a small water fall, and can be used to get to the Oregon City Municipal Elevator."

"If you love learning about the history of the area and the people who helped shape it, this is the place to visit. My husband and I brought our two children, and the four of us enjoyed every moment of the tour. It began at the Barclay House, where our guide Richard, who was full of knowledge and insight, shared the story of Dr. Barclay, which then led into the story of Dr. McLoughlin, his accomplishments, and his life. Our tour at the McLoughlin House was fantastic. We never felt rushed, and Richard took his time to answer all of our questions and more.
Once the tour ended, he recommended we continue our history journey at the Rose Farm Museum, about a mile away. If you have time after visiting the McLoughlin House, it’s well worth the stop!"
