What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hualapai Ranch offers a unique Old West lodging experience with rustic cabins and scenic trails, praised for its atmosphere and the delicious frybread at Halipuls restaurant. However, visitors should be aware of potentially high costs, mandatory package deals, and limited dining hours, which can detract from the overall experience for some.
"We didnt even see the rooms. But they approved cancelation on the spot so that was great. No real restaurant, and what you could buy was very expensive and closed 6pm. Nothing else around for 50 miles. Very dissapointing"

"We had a fantastic stay in the cabins—they were spacious, clean, and had everything we needed: a fridge, kettle, microwave, plenty of sockets, hanging space, and even a 55” TV (though we didn’t really use it). Instead, we enjoyed all our meals at the Halipuls restaurant. The food was delicious—highly recommend the frybread! Just note the restaurant closes at 5:30 PM, but that worked fine for us as we planned ahead. Breakfast starts at 8:30 AM.
We booked during a special offer that included free general admission, but even without that, the "deal of the day" was great value. For $99 + tax, we received $20 off food and drinks at the restaurant, general admission, roundtrip transfers to both the Skywalk and Guano Point, as well as entry to both locations—and the zipline for two people.
We also explored both of the advertised trails: one is 1.3 miles round trip, and the other is 3.8 miles round trip. They were gentle and scenic—especially beautiful just before sunset.
The only small downside was that lights from the main area slightly dimmed the night sky visibility. However, by walking a bit behind the cabins, we were still able to clearly see the North Star, Mars, and more.
Overall, a wonderful experience—would definitely recommend"

"SAVE YOUR MONEY AND JUST DON'T GO HERE!! Arrived at 7PM and found out we were FORCED to buy the Grand Canyon West Ultimate experience in order to stay. That is NOT listed anywhere on any website. For the two of us it was 187 dollars (which I did NOT want nor budgeted for).
I just went there to take pictures of the full moon and stars. Was not even going to do anything in the park. We already enjoyed the south end of the park.
The cabin smelled like death and super musty like it had not been cleaned in sometime. Bed us super uncomfortable so we stayed for like 30 mins and then turned keys back in and left.
NEVER AGAIN!!!! NOT WORTH THE MONEY OR ADDED TRAVEL TIME!!!"

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider the 'deal of the day' packages if available, as they can bundle family-friendly activities and admissions, making the overall cost more predictable. While the ranch itself offers a contained environment, remember that Grand Canyon West is a vast area, and supervision is key, especially near viewpoints. The stargazing potential, even with some light pollution, can also be a magical experience for kids.
💰 Budget Travelers
To save on food, consider packing your own snacks and drinks. The Hualapai Ranch Experience
Beyond the cabins, the ranch provides access to several activities. Horseback riding is a popular option, allowing guests to experience the desert landscape in a traditional way. Additionally, there are scenic hiking trails of varying lengths, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a more vigorous walk. These trails are particularly praised for their beauty, especially around sunset, offering a more intimate connection with the natural surroundings compared to the busier viewpoints.
Dining at the ranch is centered around Halipuls restaurant, which serves Native American cuisine. The frybread here is a standout dish, frequently recommended for its quality. However, it's crucial to note that the restaurant has limited hours, typically closing by 5:30 PM, and breakfast doesn't start until 8:30 AM. This requires careful planning for meals, especially for overnight guests.
Navigating Costs and Packages
However, there are also reports of 'deal of the day' offers that can provide substantial value. These deals might bundle general admission, food and drink discounts, transfers to key viewpoints, and even activities like ziplining. For those planning to utilize multiple Grand Canyon West attractions, these packages can be a cost-effective option. Always verify the terms and conditions of any special offer to ensure it aligns with your planned activities and budget.
When it comes to dining, while the food at Halipuls is generally well-regarded, some guests have found the prices to be quite high. This is particularly true if you are not part of a package that includes food discounts. Given the limited dining hours and the remote location, planning your meals in advance, perhaps by bringing some of your own snacks, can help manage expenses and ensure you have food available when needed.
