What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Mountain Lake Lodge for its unique 'Dirty Dancing' charm, breathtaking mountain setting, and the welcoming, helpful staff. The nostalgic atmosphere and opportunities to unplug are highly valued. However, some guests have experienced long wait times at dining establishments and noted that the lodge's facilities are somewhat dated, which is also seen as part of its character.
"Overall our visit was good. Our cabin The Dorland was comfortable and clean. We ate at Harvest and at the Tavern Bar. The food was decent. The staff were nice and very helpful. It’s sad that the Lake has dried up. It’s peaceful and you can definitely unplug due to no cell service. The only criticism we had was the management could do a better job of staffing the food establishments. We ate on site 3 times. Each time at no fault of the servers trying we had to wait extremely long to get very basic orders. They also were out of several things we ordered. The night we ate at the Bar the bartender was working alone trying to tend over 18 people. We waited over and hour for our food. Other than that we had a great experience."

"We were there for a beautiful wedding. The views were amazing and we were there at the perfect time to enjoy the leaves. Their customer service was wonderful. I stopped by the front desk numerous times and they were able to quickly help me each time. Chelsea set up Mary's Barn for us and was absolutely fantastic! We thoroughly enjoyed winding down by the fire pit every evening and got to visit with lots of different friends and family there."

"This was my third stay at Mountain Lake Lodge, and somehow I fall more in love with it each time. I brought my dad along this trip while visiting our daughter at Virginia Tech, and it was such a memorable experience. The setting is breathtaking — from the peaceful hiking trails to the cozy bar and welcoming atmosphere, everything feels so warm and genuine.
The staff always make you feel at home, and there’s something about this place that just slows life down in the best way. I’d love to come back with my whole family and stay in one of the larger cabins — I can even picture my kids getting married here one day! 💛"
