Costumed interpreters were stationed throughout, otherwise, there are many explanatory signs about the stores and homes. Nice visitor center with a movie and small museum, as well as gift shop and cafe. 2-2.5 hours seems good for a relaxed visit en route to Springfield.
The woods are also quite pretty, I believe there’s a campground as well.
