Beginner Backpacking Routes (1-3 miles)?
I’m a fairly experienced camper but was put off from backpacking at a young age when I went out a few times with gear that, in retrospect, was much too heavy for my age/size. I’d like to dip my toe back in but don’t want to commit to anything too strenuous for my first time out…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning natural beauty of F.D. Roosevelt State Park, particularly its extensive hiking trails and the breathtaking views from Dowdell's Knob. The historical significance of the Little White House is a major draw, offering a poignant glimpse into FDR's life. Families appreciate the pool and spacious accommodations, though some note minor issues like spiders or seasonal facility closures.
"Second visit here to camp/hike. Had a blast both times. Very reasonable pricing on the campground. The hiking trails are fun. We will definitely be back. The only caveat is they need more bathrooms/showers. The women's restroom at our loop only had one of two stalls working our entire visit."

"Our family went for a short weekend and decided to stay an extra night due to how much we enjoyed the site/area. We had a rattlesnake show up, not looking to leave, so we called the park rangers to remove it. They did so without any issues and were very nice and helpful about it all. Said it's a pretty rare occurrence. Our daughter had fun catching fireflies and spotting wildlife. We also spent some time at the beautiful pool as well."

"Came with a group of little kids. Very nice experience. We stayed in the group cabin camping area. There are also areas for tent camping and rv camping. Very large park with eough space for privacy. There is electricity In the cabins. Very spacious for large groups. 6 different large cabins with 10 beds in each, there is also a smaller one for a couple or 2. Dinning hall with everything thing you need to prepare full course meals. Just bring your food. Bath hall is separated. One side for men one for ladies each has 5 showers and 4 toliets, and the water gets hot. Lots of open grass great for kids, there is even a fire pit. They also have a Olympic size pool but it was closed because Georgia law require pools to be closed from labor to memorial day. 4 stars because there were lots of spiders in the cabins I know it's outside but it was overwhelming. The archery class doesn't exist anymore, the lake was contaminated so we couldn't canoe, and the maps were not very helpful for people new to the out door world. Other then that I definitely recommend. This was a great an memorable experience!"
