Had the opportunity to tour the University of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Learning. Wow! It’s like Hogwarts on the ground floor and nothing quite like the Nationality Rooms inside, used as real working classrooms. Tallest educational building in the world at the the time it was built in the late 1920s. A monument that honors education and learning. We got to tour the Swiss Room, built in 2012 fo...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Cathedral of Learning's stunning Gothic architecture and the unique, immersive experience of the Nationality Rooms. Many highlight the incredible value of the guided tours and the impressive scale of the building, calling it a must-see in Pittsburgh. Some note potential access limitations to upper floors and the need to check room availability due to classes.

"42 story Gothic building towers over all other university buildings. For gothic lovers this is a must see. If you are visiting the Nationality Rooms, they are located on the 1st and 3rd floors and only accessible between 9AM - 3PM when the Uni is in session."

Michelle Goldstein

"I've visited college campuses all over America and this is the coolest building on any college campus anywhere. The first floor is a castle-like lounge for students with chairs, benches, and thrones on which you can chill out (you don't need to be a Pitt student to hang out there). The first and third floors have 20+ "nationality rooms" which are rooms designed to look like a particular country. The nationality rooms are used as classrooms but you can enter them as long as there's no class going on. The staff at the gift shop can tell you which nationality rooms don't have classes. The students and professors don't seem offended or upset by all the tourists, some actually invited us to see the rooms quickly between classes. I enjoyed the Chinese, Ukrainian, and Armenian rooms the most."

Bruce Arthur

"Highly recommend taking the international rooms guided tour... the best $4 you'll ever spend... but you have to go on the weekend as the rooms are used as classrooms during the week. Fasciating history and architecture. You can also then go up to the 36th floor to get an incredible view of Pittsburgh"
