Finally made the return to overnight backpacking after nearly a decade hiatus. Couldn't be happier to be back. Point Reyes, CA

I camped at Glen Campt a couple of weeks ago. Hiked in from Palomarin and out along the beach from wildcat up the side of the waterfall. A bit of climbing with a 30lb pack.

Tips about first time camping at Point Reyes

I'll be camping at the Sky Campground at Point Reyes, and it's my first time camping! I understand it's about a \~1.5 mile hike in. Does anyone know how 'rough' that hike is? Could I bring a wagon for my cooler, stove, etc.? And any other tips are appreciated!

Reviews Summary

Glen Camp offers a rewarding backcountry experience with stunning coastal access, particularly to Alamere Falls and Wildcat Beach. While the hike-in can be challenging, the peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty are highly praised. Some campers note that site selection is crucial for privacy and shade, and vault toilets can be pungent. Reddit+1

"Site 3, roomy no privacy. No sun, wet. Close to group site which can be loud. Pit toilets were fine and there is TP. Essential workers during the government shutdown remove trash and resupply."

Darren Lynch

"Decent place to camp, potable water & bathrooms & trash cans. Campsites are pretty flat, some have shade, some don’t. I stayed at 006 which had plenty of shade. 4.5 mile hike in from bear valley visitor center, trail is obvious and site is easy to find. however, not much to see in the area, if you want a better view, I’d recommend the wildcat campsite."

Michael Wang

"Beautiful place to camp. Not too far from wildcat beach and Alamere falls. We stayed in site 7 which had shade all day. The vault toilets stink pretty bad during the day but are fine in the morning and evening. About 5.5 miles of mostly flat hiking from 5 brooks trailhead."
