Many find it a worthwhile detour, appreciating the well-preserved fort and the informative museum. Some note the secluded location and limited amenities, suggesting visitors come prepared.
"Fort de Chartres is rich in history, and definitely worth a stop. Driving through the area, I decided to visit, and Iโm glad I did. In the middle of Illinois country side, this fort rests in quiet pasture along the river. When I arrived, I was the only one there, and the peacefulness of the nature and grounds was peak, if I had food with me Iโd have a picnic. The fort is self guided, and the Musuem is filled with much history regarding the fort, area, and a huge supply of artifacts. Would definitely come back with family!"
