What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Suffolk County Historical Society Museum for its authentic portrayal of Long Island history and its incredibly friendly, knowledgeable staff. The affordable admission makes it a great value, with highlights like the interactive 'touch table' offering a hands-on experience. However, some find the accessibility and cost of reproducing historical photos to be a significant drawback.
"As a local for most of my life, this sure was a worthy investment of time, if you're ever perusing Riverhead with nothing to do and have a somewhat curious mind into history, do pay them a visit, very nice folk and neat little exhibits with all kinds of stories if you are into museums and have the patience / time for it. For the price and amount of effort they put into this place, it really doesn't get any more Long Island than this! 10/10 would recommend."

"Brilliant and well-run museum. As a native Long Islander, I feel incredibly privileged to have this museum locally, both as a resource and a refuge. All the staff are highly educated, helpful, and as friendly as can be. They're always happy to see people come in, and are attentive to any and all questions. I favor this museum because it displays ACCURATE Long Island history. It also publishes an excellent newsletter. It does not sugar coat anything, and it does not misrepresent the facts. If you want real Long Island history, come here. I feel you will appreciate it as much as I have."

"First you'll meet the nicest receptionist of any museum on Long Island. As a senior my $3.00 entry fee provuded a few hours of entertainment. The adult fee is only $5.00 and is a bargain. There was an art exhibition with the artist present to answer any questions and provide the inspiration to her art. The old items displayed with just numbers and a QR code. The challenge is to match the objects to the list provided by the library. Using your smart phone you see if your guess is correct and learn more about the object."
