"You can drive all the way to the top and hike about half a mile to the observation tower. It is 39 steps to get to the top. The US geological emblem that marks spot as the tallest site in West Virginia is hard to find. It is next to the observation tower. If you drive to Spruce Lake from Route 33, there is a 5 mile piece of road that is not paved. The entire road to get up there is narrow."
