Best rinks to visit in Detroit?
So I'm going to be visiting Detroit for the first time ever..... and HOLY SHIT, I've been attempting to make a complete list of skating clubs and ice rinks in Detroit, but I think I've given up. It's impossible. I think every single home in Detroit must have an ice rink in their…

Metro Detroit D-Leagues
Trust me just attend drop in at john lindell. I live in royal oak and the guys there are usually really nice. Theres a few that are insane but tone it down when against people that aren’t at the level. All around bunch of good guys when it comes to casual play. If you want more…
Mini Mites Hockey
Has anyone sent their kid through mini mites hockey lately? I’ve heard mixed reviews from parents of older kids but curious if anyone’s done it recently? The Troy BWW program for my son’s age is full so considering this as an option. With a $1k commitment, would love to hear…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
John Lindell Ice Arena is a hub for local hockey, praised for its two rinks and the opportunity to watch competitive men's and women's leagues. Spectator seating is generally good, and the front desk staff are friendly. However, the arena faces significant criticism for its dilapidated locker rooms and showers, which are often described as unsanitary and lacking hot water. Inconsistent ice quality and unreliable website information also detract from the visitor experience.
"This place is awful. They are sexist by denying women’s teams to play when John Lindell was the one who screwed up the ice time. They gave no notice that the ice time had been rescheduled. Don’t play here and don’t trust them! They take no accountability and management is corrupt. The same situation happened before and they let the boys play but not the women. Hypocritical, sexist and and misogynistic!"

"Have played at this rink for several seasons now, and each year they send a survey asking what they can do better. Can't speak for everyone, but many on my team at least indicates the showers are atrocious. Recently, I inquired directly whether we could get management feedback about what would be done based on our concerns, but received no response. As such I thought it might be valuable to post a review that includes photos.
Please note these photos are from multiple locker rooms, and were taken in late '23/early '24. A couple even show a "renovated" shower. There's more to show, but I think the point is clear: the showers are disgusting and worse than many other rinks around Metro Detroit.
I understand hockey players can be gross, and imagine it's difficult to keep up with given the frequency of use, but this is fairly egregious and I question whether its sanitary on some level, especially as I read other posts with people loving the arena itself for activities for their small kids.
Also: I don't really think it's asking a lot for the rather large Suburban group to invest a relatively small amount to permanently address a well-known issue. Would be great if they'd communicate their plan, too!
Separately, I'd like to note the front desk/pro shop staff are kind, and the refs are pretty solid - if not a bit slow given the running clock.
Thank you for your consideration!"

"A great place to watch some local hockey leagues. Great seats, two rinks. Not sure if they have open scates, but I imagine they do. If you ever get an opportunity to visit do so, plenty of leagues to watch if you love hockey. Ladies and men's hockey"
