Scenic drive from Portland to Seattle
Will be visiting Portland for 3 nights and Seattle for 3 more, we have a full day to get from Portland to Seattle and are looking for a good drive. I had thought about taking the coast, but looking at the map I am not sure it's worth the detour time. Am I wrong, is it a prettyβ¦
Wild horses in Pacific Northwest
Dear Oregonians and Washingtonians, is it still possible to see real wild horses in either of these states or are they pretty much all gone by now? If possible (finger crossed), are there any specific places to travel to potentially see them? Thank you!
β Summit Stop
Enjoy a snack at the Orthodox convent shop at the pass summit.
β°οΈ Less Snow Than White Pass
A good option in winter as it gets less snow than steeper, narrower passes.
Oregon is finally allowing people to pump their own gas!
I live in Eastern Washington. When heading over to Oregon, I cross Satus Pass and almost always try to fill up in Goldendale (on the Washington side) rather than crossing over into Oregon and having them fill it up at Biggs.

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Satus Pass Viewpoint is appreciated as a practical and scenic shortcut, especially for avoiding I-5 traffic and for its reliability in winter. While some find it less dramatic than other passes, its charm lies in its ease of travel and the potential for wildlife sightings.
"We always take this route traveling from Portland to Central Washington. We avoid the heavy traffic on l-5 and the pass is fairly short and not very high. It's good in the winter because it rarely gets heavy snow. If going to eastern Washington you can avoid the other busier mountain passes. Also between goldendale and Yakima is a herd of wild horses. We try to spot them and it's fun."
Brad Arch
"Pleasant shortcut to Central Washington. We always stop at the Orthodox convent shop at the summit for a bite to eat. Satus Pass is an ancient course of the Columbia River from back sometime before the Carter administration."
Brian Caughey
"One of Washington's less stirring mountain passes. A pleasant enough drive, but probably not worth visiting on it's own merits.
At times US97 can be congested with trucks and RV's."
