Pin Point Heritage Museum, celebrates the life, work and history of this Gullah/Geechee community that calls Pin Point home. The locals there survive off trading oysters, crabs and living off the sea and river. It is also the birthplace of Clarence Thomas. Yup, makes you wonder how he can come from such humble and warm beginnings and be the person he is now. But I digress. A quick 25 minutes dri...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Pin Point Heritage Museum for its rich Gullah Geechee cultural insights and the engaging guided tours. The historical setting of the former oyster factory and the scenic Moon River location are also frequently highlighted as major draws. While generally well-received, some visitors note the importance of checking operating hours due to limited availability.

"It's always a treat to visit the Pin Point Heritage Museum in historical Pin Point, Savannah. My father's people are from the Gullah Geechee culture. They were enslaved from West Africa (Sierra Leone, Angola and other West African countries) forced to live/work in America. Their religion/spiritual practice is Seeking. This museum is a treasure and worth a visit. There is also a documentary entitled, Take Me To The Water and many books written about the Gullah Geechee culture. You should check them out! You will likely see a resident crawling around the museum, the Fiddler crab. The other natural beauty that is throughout Savannah are the mighty water oak trees draped with Spanish moss. They add to the charm of the city. 🫶🏽🙏🏽😊"

Natina Harris

"Had a great day visiting this beautiful place. Loved hearing the stories of the Gullah women working, cleaning crabs, and oysters. The tour was fun and interesting. I bought a cookbook there and decided to go home and make Jambalaya. It's delish. 😋"

Sue Ellen Bozzi

"Very interesting. Experience the history of the Gulla Geechees, originally from West Africa who created a shrimp and oyster industry in Pin Point. About 100 Gulla Geechees still live in the area. The Moon River, from the song, is located there. Everyone should visit."
