Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Short Beach's stunning natural beauty, especially its dramatic sea stacks and unique waterfall. It's a popular spot for agate hunting, particularly after winter storms. While the steep stairs and limited parking are noted drawbacks, the rewarding beachcombing and picturesque scenery make it a worthwhile destination for many.
"Absolutely beautiful beach, especially at sunset. Drove 8.5 hours just to come here and look for some agates (a success)! Stairs were in the process of being rebuilt by some kind volunteers. It was close to being done and looking amazing when I left. Very solid steps with some benches on the way down. Will be going back!"

"Oh, how I love this place in winter. It's wild, treacherous, and full of beautiful chalcedony chunks and green jasper. On my last visit in September 2025, I was happy to see they have nearly finished rebuilding the steps to the beach, which had been rotting away. They've also added hand rails for safety, as the steps are steep. This is NOT an ADA-friendly beach: There's only one way down, via steep steps. It's helpful to check tide charts, especially in winter, to ensure that there's enough beach to walk upon. Good, waterproof boots with ankle support are important, since you'll be walking on loose rock at times. There's a port-a-potty at the top of the steps and only roadside parking, which fills up during the weekend and after good winter storms, when the agate-picking is best. The cliffs surrounding the beach are prone to rockslides, so keep your distance. Last week, there was a huge, fresh pile of rock that had fallen from the southernmost cliff. Not a great place for toddlers, but beautiful and so picturesque."

"My wife and I stopped by on a Sunday evening (7:30-9:00) when there were no other cars in the lot. Decent staircase that takes you straight down to a beautiful view that opens up to cliffs, stacks, waterfalls, and crashing waves. We did not have to try hard to find agates along with some jade and jasper. One of my favorite times spent at a beach."
