Visitors praise the Toscano Hotel as a free, fascinating historical site offering a genuine glimpse into 1800s immigrant life. The guided tours are particularly highlighted for their informative and engaging content, bringing the past to life. While the interior's limited opening hours can be a challenge, the overall experience is considered a valuable and enriching part of exploring Sonoma's rich history.

"Sonoma Square is one surprise after another. I have walked around the Square several times the last couple of years, thinking I had thoroughly explored it. Walking toward the Mission, I glanced inside a storefront that caught my eye. It turned out to be the Toscano Hotel. It is part of the State Parks maintained historical sites. It is another opportunity to see what life was like in the mid 1800's and beyond for immigrants, in a boardinghouse type setting who worked hard to get ahead. A woman from the Parks Dept, provided very interesting historical information on the time period."

Alan Hennessy

"Special opportunity to tour the free historical site. Extra special when we were offered a guided tour of the upstairs at the boarding house. The inside is only open a few hours a week, and previous visits never had it opened. Great host shared the details and intricate details. Follow on visit to the dining hall and museum area capped off an informative tour. The wall hanging was made from human hair as men went off on dangerous adventures."

Rob Loy

"This is one of California State Parks museums in a two block area surrounding The Plaza. It is right next door to the original Spanish and Mexican barracks, across a small street from the original Mission an diagonally across from the Joseph Hooker House. This is the site of the Bear Flag Rebellion which helped make California part of the United States of America."
