What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Fort McDermott Confederate Memorial Park offers a glimpse into Civil War history with its preserved earthworks and informative markers. Visitors appreciate the historical significance and peaceful setting, though parking is limited and the historical interpretations can be controversial. It's a site best suited for those seeking a focused historical experience.
"It's small, has no parking, and is filled with pro-confederate warped historical plaques. It's basically a sad romanticized shrine to the confederacy hidden away in the woods made by/for the people who still say "The South will rise again." Other than seeing the cool earthly foundations for the fort and the nice firepit, I wouldn't recommend going there unless you want to soak in a twisted view of the past. If you're not a racist, I would find a different park."
Avery Smith
"This is a site that is easy to miss. The pull in off the road is small and not clearly marked. The earthworks are all that remain of the fort but it is a beautiful and peaceful area, with several markers and some statues. This was clearly a very defensible position on the river and though vastly outnumbered held until there was nothing left to defend."

"Very nice Memorial Park in a well maintained neighborhood."
