What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often praise Indian Orchard Mills for its vibrant artsy atmosphere and the opportunity to discover diverse local artists and their work, especially during open studio events. The addition of a brewery is also a popular feature. However, some visitors have expressed disappointment when studios were unexpectedly closed or when the online information about events and openings was not up-to-date, leading to a less-than-ideal experience.
"Pretty great place to find so many artists and different types of art. The open house was a nice event. It gave us a chance to see the works, gain some inspiration, and meet some nice people.
It has a very artsy vibe and though professional, is full of welcoming people. I can imagine a better use of the old mill buildings."

"A must see... I cannot even explain how beautiful this place is and the art work you must go for yourselves. There’s an must attend event here coming up the 2nd week of November."

"I went by on a Sat. early afternoon when the Dane Gallery was supposedly open but it is a locked, empty, abandoned space. There is no gallery. The whole building is filled with studios but none were open. There is nothing to see here folks. I walked around for almost half an hour inside the "artist colony" and didn't encounter a single other soul. The IOM website seems active and robust but if you look at it closely you will notice there have been no updates on it since 2023, with no planned events or anything else. Same for all of IOM's social media sites.
Upshot: This organization/colony is nothing more than a physical space of closed, individually leased artists' studios with nothing on display. It is not a "community" organization for artists or art patrons; it is not a venue or gallery of any kind. A shame because it seems like it could have a lot of potential to offer the public culturally (and monetize the artists' works at the same time) with a little attention. Hopefully no taxpayer dollars are devoted to this entity!"

Exploring the Artist Community

The overall vibe is described as artsy and welcoming, making it a great destination for art enthusiasts.
Beyond the studios, the mills have also seen the addition of a local brewery in the lower level, offering a place to relax and enjoy a drink after exploring the art. This adds another dimension to the visitor experience, combining art appreciation with a casual social setting.

Other events, such as vendor pop-ups and paint parties, are also frequently hosted. These offer different ways to interact with the creative community, whether by supporting local small businesses or participating in a hands-on art activity. It's essential to keep an eye on the mills' social media channels for the most current information on upcoming events, as these are the times when the space truly comes alive for the public.
While the mills themselves are a collection of individual studios, these organized events create a sense of community and provide a structured opportunity for visitors to engage with the art and artists. The addition of a brewery also enhances the event experience, providing a place to socialize and unwind.
