This is my second time staying at Fernside A-frame by @tworiverretreats and it may have been the best visit yet! During warmer months you can tube down the Sturgeon River all the way to the State Park. It’s a short walk back to the cabin. It’s one of the coolest things I’ve seen on all my cabin adventures! Here are some ideas of activities to do while you’re in the area -Burt Lake State Park: Th...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve for its beautiful Lake Michigan views, diverse trails, and peaceful atmosphere. It's noted as a great spot for short hikes, especially for families, with easy water access and scenic lighthouse views. The main drawback is the limited parking, which can be challenging during busy periods.

"When the weather is nice, it is a fantastic place to view Lake Michigan. The sandy walk along the beach along with the more secluded path in the woods provides for a great short hike when you want a breath of fresh air. The only issue I had was the somewhat limited parking that is a bit luck-based whether you can find a spot."

MADVIU

"Easy access to the water and the ship canal. The farthest lot gets you to the water and a short loop. This is perfect with small kids. Less than a mile of relatively flat. Woods + water, they will be entertained without being miles from the car. No bathroom and you do practice leave no trace. I recommend brining your coffee down and watching the sun rise."

Ashley Adams

"A beautiful trail hike through a diverse environment. Views of two historic lighthouses and the entrance to the ship canal. Well worth the visit to explore!

I’ll be back! 👍🏼"
