What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Owen Beach is lauded as a stunning PNW gem, offering breathtaking views of Mount Rainier and opportunities for wildlife sightings like orcas and seals. Visitors appreciate the recently renovated facilities and the peaceful atmosphere, making it ideal for picnics and strolls. However, parking can be challenging on busy, sunny days.
"An absolutely stunning location and a must-visit if you're in Tacoma, especially on a clear day. Owen Beach itself is a lovely, classic PNW rocky beach nestled inside the beautiful Point Defiance Park, but the real showstopper is the view.
On a day when "The Mountain is out," you get a breathtaking, perfectly framed, and unobstructed view of a snow-capped Mount Rainier rising over the Puget Sound. The contrast of the calm beach, the water, and the massive volcano in the distance is just incredible. It truly is the kind of view you have to see in person to fully appreciate.
This is a perfect spot for a family picnic, a relaxing stroll along the water, or just to sit on a log and soak in the scenery. The recently renovated pavilion and facilities are a huge plus, making it even more comfortable to spend an afternoon here.
Tip: Parking can get very busy on sunny weekends, so consider arriving earlier in the day. We visited on a perfect July afternoon and it felt like seeing a postcard come to life. Highly, highly recommend!"

"Owen Beach is a charming, lesser-known waterfront spot in Seattle that offers a peaceful escape from the city buzz. With its sandy shoreline, calm waters, and scenic views of Puget Sound, it’s perfect for relaxing afternoons, picnics, and casual strolls.
On the day we visited, May 4th 2025, we were lucky enough to see dolphins swimming nearby — such a magical experience that made the visit even more memorable. The beach is family-friendly and less crowded than many other Seattle beaches, making it ideal for a quiet day by the water.
Overall, Owen Beach is a hidden gem where you can enjoy nature’s surprises right near the city."

"We enjoyed a lovely stroll down the beach at low tide. We saw some starfish and jellyfish washed ashore, as well as a seal! Main part of the beach is busy but thins out if you walk down along the water. Plenty of parking."
