What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Rose Cemetery is recognized for its deep historical significance as an early African American burial ground, with visitors appreciating the weathered headstones and personal tributes. However, concerns about its upkeep and maintenance are frequently mentioned, with some graves appearing neglected. Despite this, many find the atmosphere solemn and reflective, with occasional reports of paranormal activity adding to its mystique.
"After seeing a YouTube video about this place being "ghostly" I thought I would check it out. A very old cemetery that's not well kept but is historically significant. It's the first African American Cemetery during segregation to be leased in 1900 initially for 50 years. It's a one of a kind in Pinellas County having existed for over 120 years. Many African American cemeteries in the county are known to have constructed buildings over them. Crum in Clearwater is a perfect example. Right now the city and Crum are looking to find an immediate solution. It's unbelievable that this happened and hope it's resolved soon.
Rose Cemetery has mostly older stones with the etchings barely visible. The significance to family and friends is evident with trinkets. Many graves were Veterans and some children who died over 100 years ago. I didn't see anything "ghostly" except for old worn gravesites with old tired flowers and many fallen leaves. There were many cherished memories from loved ones left behind. It was once known as Rose Hill Cemetery and was definitely an interesting visit.
Happy Halloween! 🎃 👻"

"I have been coming to this cemetery for about 4 years now. The groundskeeping is not great and so many graves are left to the inevitability of the unpredictable weather. It’s quite sad. Especially since the other cemetery literally on the same road is well-kept and cared for everyday. Despite that, every time I come to Rose Cemetery, I try to clean up and pick up trash to the best of my ability on the grounds, but sadly, it’s not enough. I wish more people were able to recognize this tragedy and would help out the cemetery more. But either way, it’s beautiful and an important place to recognize the lives that have been lost and the lives that will forever be remembered and recognized. May we all be care takers of this lovely places of memories."

"We have been cleaning and taking care of my mother in law grave since 1998. Between the things we got hotel and gas expenses it was looking nice. We were the first to ever decorate there. Then everyone joined in and it was looking better. This past Sunday my husband and I went to her gravesite since we are in FL now we can go more. What a shock!!! Everything was gone. Her fence her lights her winchime. EVERYTHING. Now we can’t get ahold on anyone to get answers. That was disrespectful"
