What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mount Adams is a highly challenging and rewarding hike, praised for its stunning summit views and sense of accomplishment. However, hikers consistently warn about the extreme steepness, difficult boulder scrambles, and unpredictable, harsh weather conditions. Parking at the trailhead is a significant hurdle, often requiring an extremely early arrival.
"I have hiked many mountains Peaks but this is one of the craziest after Mount Washington via huntington trail. It is steep from start. Every mile has more than 1000 feet I guess. Last .5 mile took an hour. That part was the full of big boulders.Totally loved the view after treeline. Parking is limited but I guess less crowded as well. Paid parking is hard to get and once it is full, there is no parking space for next 1 mile I guess. I reached at 4 am and parking was almost full. I got the last one."

"Mount Adams is one of the more difficult mountains to hike in New England. The summit is well over 5000 in altitude. Combine that with hopping and climbing from boulder to boulder makes for a challenging day. Most people hike the Valley Way Trail to reach the summit but that's far from your only choice. A similar but a bit more scenic route would be to take the Airline Trail. Do your research and make an informed decision on the route you take and you will not be disappointed! Be prepared for the weather and temperature changes. Mount Adams has had measurable snow every month of the year. I read an article about a man hiking with his son and his son's friend who got lost and died from hypothermia in August. Make sure you stop in the AMC Madison hut. There's always a great group of people there if you hike while it's open. Make sure start your hike early because the Appalachia Parking Lot fills up early."

"I have visited (climbed) so many mountains, but Mt Adam's is not so comfortable without special equipment. I think White Mountains you need to get in winter season. Really strong (exposure) wind I got at the peak."
