Reviews Summary

Visitors praise King Canyon Trailhead for its stunning desert scenery, iconic saguaro cacti, and the unique opportunity to see ancient petroglyphs. The hike to Wasson Peak is challenging but rewarding with incredible views. However, the lack of shade, rocky terrain, and limited parking on weekends are common drawbacks.

"This trail is super rocky. You can grab 3 trailheads from this point. You can walk to Wasson peak & back or do a loop connecting with other trails to make it longer. We hiked 8 miles and did the loop. Trail is all uphill until the peak (heart rate booster), there’s no shade & no dogs allowed. Lots of views and plenty of saguaros to look at. Great hiking spot.

Parking lot has about 20 spaces but on the weekend they fill up before 9am. We did park far out at from the museum in their lot (saw other hikers doing the same) & we’re ok (not towed & it took us 4 hours).

No bathrooms at this parking area. Bring lots of water."

KJ Diller

"Easy hike or walk. Great trails for horseback.
PETROGLYPHS!
Take the King Canyon Wash trail loop. (7.8 miles RT)
Just as you enter the 4th rock steep along King Canyon Wash (about 3-4 miles in) there will be petroglyphs on both right and left cliff faces along the wash.
Awesome views! Not much shade so water and sunscreen are a must."

Samantha Massey

"Great hike for a range of levels. This one has a few options as hiking routes from short loop to slight elevation - it offers everyone a view of the saguaros. I’d say Take the slight elevation path up king canyon, the reward is magnificent saguaros land and serene valley. Worth the time and sweats
Happy hiking"
