Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Elkhorn Slough Reserve as a hidden gem offering abundant wildlife, serene natural beauty, and excellent educational facilities. The free entry and well-maintained trails make it an accessible and enjoyable destination for all. Some minor concerns include the presence of ticks and uneven trail sections, but these are generally manageable with proper preparation.

"Very good park with undulating trails for walking, hiking, birding or trail running. Excellent facilities – tons of educational and historical information in the visitor’s center and on signs along the trails; helpful staff; good restrooms and parking. Entrance is free. Scenic views and more wildlife than people. If trail running, avoid the Long Valley Loop – the trail is fully of gopher holes."

Darrell Stanaford

"Great spot for an easy walk to see some wildlife. There are many ticks, so be sure to wear long pants and bring bug repellent. The visitor center has a public restroom and very informational."

Courtney Adkins

"What an incredibly wonderful secret, hidden in plain sight. I’ve loved four miles away from the Elkhorn Slough Reserve for over fifty years and have never stepped foot inside. Why did I wait? Why did I waste so many precious years not enjoying the beauty and serenity? I’ll never know. But I am so glad that today, I decided to take my three year old toddler out for a walk to burn some energy. Burn some, we did.

If you’re just into fresh air and exercise, you’ll love it. If you’re I to bird watching or nature photography, you’ll love it. If you want to learn about the Slough’s ecosystem and animals, you’ll love it. If you’re allergic to beauty and awe, you’ll hate it.

Sincerely, I’m not even sure I want to post this review because I’d love for this absolutely 100% free hidden jewel remains so. But God didn’t make beauty like this for just a handful of people to enjoy.

There are picnic areas and even restrooms along the trails. So there’s no excuse not to make your day better and visit Elkhorn Slough Reserve."
