What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Loxahatchee Slough for its abundant wildlife, serene atmosphere, and the extensive Ocean to Lake Trail. Many enjoy the peaceful solitude and the chance to see deer, gators, and birds. However, some encounters with wildlife can be intense, and the trails can become very wet during the rainy season, requiring careful preparation.
"4 out of 5 stars only because of a terrifying, yet very memorable experience. Ive run and hiked many times in the slough. One time I went alone, during very wet season, and it was nearing dark. I started at lake okeechobee and was attempting to run to hobe sound beach (only made it through Riverbend park, approximately 50 miles covered). Due to the tine of day, fatigue, and being alone i was a bit nervous navigating all the water and thick woods when I ran into a Bob cat of decent size. When I say ran into... I mean almost literally! I was only a few feet from it. Thankfully I slowly backed behind a tree as he crouched down and the beautiful cat decided I wasnt worth his time. Other than that, it is a gorgeous piece of nature and I highly recommend hiking/running out there. Just be careful because there is plenty of wildlife out there and during wet seasons, it can get very, very wet! I highly recommend running/hiking the entire ocean to lake trail! Ive now completed it and have done each sections many times. It's a magical experience!"

"This was a nice hike until I saw the fire.
The trail is wide and easy to walk. You will see white-tailed deer and snakes. I am sure there are more animals, but I did not see them
My hike was cut short.
I saw a fire there and turned it into the fire dept. I hope they got to it in time to stop it from spreading."

"The Lox Slough is one of the best kept secrets! Beautiful observation tower. Always wild animal sightings. Fishing piers. And best of all, my favorite hiking trail runs right through it. The Ocean To Lake. Maybe you can even find the 3 magical boardwalks!"
