"An unforgettable experience! The cave has large rooms with stunning rock formations, a couple of sea fossils and that's not all. The guide was super friendly and made the tour fun and informative.
There was a change of ownership this year and looks like the new team is working hard to improve the overall experience. The cave is open only during the summer since it is an important bat hibernaculum.
Highly recommended for anyone who loves caverns. Looking forward to visiting it again in 2026 for the 100 years celebration."

"Had a great experience. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The tour guide was quite knowledgeable and the cave was fun to explore. You get a taste of wide caverns and narrow (but not too narrow!) tunnels. A fun family experience."

"Perfect. We had an over night Moto Camp over the weekend. Campsites were great! Quiet and very nice. We took a cave tour with Chris before we left and it also was really cool. If you love doing things you normally can't see at a campground, this is the place to go. Yesterday was the last day for tours for that bat hibernation but definitely a must."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The Geology of Woodward Cave
Among its most celebrated features is Pennsylvania's largest known stalagmite, a colossal formation that draws visitors from afar. The cave also contains unique formations like 'cave bacon,' a striped flowstone, and evidence of ancient marine life in the form of sea fossils embedded within the rock layers. These fossils offer a glimpse into the region's prehistoric past when it was submerged under a shallow sea.
The cave's consistent temperature of 48°F (9°C) year-round is a direct result of its depth and insulation by the surrounding earth. This stable environment also makes it a crucial habitat for various bat species, particularly during their winter hibernation period, which influences the cave's accessibility for tours.
Planning Your Visit: Tips from the Community
Given the cave's constant cool temperature of 48°F (9°C), bringing a light jacket or sweater is a common piece of advice, regardless of the season. This ensures a more comfortable experience as you explore the subterranean wonders.
For those interested in capturing memories, photography is generally welcomed. However, it's always wise to check for any specific rules regarding flash photography or the use of tripods. Some visitors have also noted the unique experience of receiving a small piece of cave clay as a souvenir from their guide.
Woodward Cave as a Natural Habitat
The cave's status as a bat hibernaculum means that access for visitors is generally limited to the warmer seasons, usually from spring through fall. This closure is crucial for minimizing disturbance to the bats during their vulnerable hibernation period. Visitors are encouraged to respect this natural cycle and plan their trips accordingly.
Understanding the cave's dual role as both a tourist attraction and a natural sanctuary enhances the visitor experience. It fosters an appreciation for the delicate balance of nature and the importance of conservation efforts.
