Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Iglesia San Juan Bautista de Milla to be a beautiful and historically significant landmark with a charming colonial interior. Its convenient location in a pleasant area of Mérida, adjacent to a lively plaza, makes it easily accessible and enjoyable to visit. While some may find it small, its architectural details and peaceful ambiance are consistently praised.

"Linda"

Hector Guillermo Osorio Lobo

"In the 17th century, the formation of Milla had begun. It had a chapel dedicated to the Holy Cross. In 1806, the sector became a parish and the chapel was moved to the dedication of Saint John the Baptist. It was then destroyed by the earthquake of 1894, and that same year the reconstruction of the church began on the foundations of the already destroyed one. In 1906, the work was completed. In 1970, a restoration work began by the architects Alfonso Vanegas Rizo and Paolo D’Onghia, repairing columns, walls, and roofs. The façade of the church was built from 1894 onwards. Its architectural order is located within the colonial and republican churches, a time when the country was in the process of renewing classical forms of art, which is why it displays a symmetry and neoclassical purity with baroque flashes. A contrast of light and shadow gives movement to this building whose peculiar façade combines neoclassical and neo-baroque styles. The quadrangular bell tower is in the neoclassical style. It has three entrances, a basilica floor plan with three naves and a chapel on the Gospel side. Its interior support with paired roofs, gables, braces and wooden cruciform pillars give colour to this enclosure that still retains a colonial touch despite the renovations. It is a National Historic Monument according to Official Gazette 26,320 of 1960."

"Lorito the Clown presented his magic and comedy show at the Milla Church in Merida state.

A day full of laughter, magic, and joy, where adults and children who live at the Milla Church had a great time.

Laughter is essential in our lives. Never stop smiling 😁
