Ha long City
Is this a nice destination for a night or two? What is there to do there? Is it a big, ugly city? I am thinking of 1 night in the city, a cruise in Halong Bay and then 2 nights on Cat Ba.
Where are the Bars?
Just arrived in Ha Long Bay and spent best part of an hour walking around looking for a bar to have a beer but can’t find anywhere. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, we are staying in the Bai Chay area.

I'm worried- every review of Ha Long Bay says its terrible. What is near that is better to visit?
I'm kinda freaking out. I have four nights booked in Ha Long Bay. Currently in Da Nang which I'm really enjoying. Flight to Ha Long leaving the day after tomorrow. This is the first time I've been to Vietnam and -full disclosure - I am quite a gullible and naive person. That's…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
October 30 Square is a central landmark in Ha Long, offering access to local life and amenities. While Bai Chay Beach provides coastal views, it can be notably quiet and deserted during the off-season, with some visitors suggesting alternative districts for a more vibrant atmosphere. Be prepared for potential extra costs at some attractions.
"This place is sooooo overpriced for Vietnam. I understand you’re in a small tourist city but it’s one thing to charge extra, another to completely extort them. The music was so loud you couldn’t even hear yourself think and the way they stand around you waiting for you to order before you have even looked at the menu. Absolute joke of a place"

"Cool night club with a lot flashing lights if you want them to just scam you out of money. We thought we bought 5 beers, turns out they are heiniken silvers, about 1/2 the size and then tbe cocktail waitress and her friend poured themselves a drink everytime they refilled ours so we likely got less than a beer each."

"A can of warm lager cost 113k. As I was leaving a male member of staff put his arm round my waist. There was no explanation or apology when I made it clear that I was displeased. I am a straight male customer in my 50s. Behaviour like this is unacceptable. It spoilt my evening. The bar is currently called "Deep Cafe"."
