A peaceful nature escape just 45 mins from the city? Yes please. 💚 Birdsland Reserve is one of my fave low-effort, slow, soul-filling place for a family walk. The 2km loop is flat and pram-friendly, perfect for little legs—or a good jog if you need to burn some steam. You can bring the dog (on leash!), and there’s even a spot where they can cool off with a splash. We love bringing a few oats f...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Birdsland Reserve for its beautiful, accessible walking tracks and abundant wildlife, particularly birds and kangaroos. It's a popular local spot for dog walking and family outings, offering a peaceful natural escape. Some track closures for maintenance have been noted, but the overall experience is highly positive.

"Really beautiful spot for a walk that's within the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Lush greenery and a well beaten track made it easy to navigate the park. Some areas were closed when I went, due to modifications, so would love to go back when they're done.

Overall, really nice track!"

Gazielle

"Very nice spot for walking, walking the dog and do forth. Aptly named as it is a good spot for a variety of birdlikeeith large gum trees, lower bush, a lake a stream. Keep your eye out for birds like Kookaburra (very common near the picnic grounds and carpark), Crimson and Eastern Rosella's (in larger trees near carpark of feeding in the trees near the creek), swans, ducks, grebes, cormorants, egrets, buff banded rails, a few honey eaters and your more common usual suspects.
Be sure to check out the little wetlands section beside the track straight ahead of the carpark.
There is also a carpark at the front gate if the inner carpark is full. The walk in from the outer carpark is nice among the bigger gum forest trees. Many Rosella's hang out here.
Picnic tables and toilets are there.
Be sure to take your rubbish away with you so it doesnt polite the bush.
On your way in or out theres a decent bakery at Belgrade South and more cafes and pubs in Main Belgrave town. Enjoy it and be considerate of others and wildlife"

"Absolutely beautiful reserve, not too massive, a wealth of wildlife (specifically bird species - which is a happy coincidence given the place is named after the previous landowners, the Bird family, rather than the abundance of birds in the reserve!) as well as unique fungi during winter.

Supposedly also one of the few remaining natural habitats in the area for platypus, though they’re typically nocturnal so your chances of seeing one are slim!

Dog friendly too (but their owners could do better at picking up after them).

Part of the track was closed when I went for what appeared to be maintenance or reconstruction of the path around one of the waterways, but I’d definitely visit again!"
