Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Mapleton Falls for its stunning natural beauty, particularly the impressive waterfall and panoramic valley views. The accessible rainforest walks are a highlight, offering a serene escape. However, some note that the falls are less dramatic during dry periods, and parking can be limited on busy days.

"Really nice location, unfortunately I had neither the time nor the physicality to take the short walks but from looking at it, it appears to be a "gentle" walk with well marked trails. Great view but would definitely be better after or during a decent amount of rain fall. The waterfall while slow (due to the lack of recent rain) was still nice to see and I'd recommend it to anyone passing through as it's only about 1 minute off the main road. There is a single disabled parking spot however it's at a very steep angle so due care and attention will be required."

"View of the waterfall itself is limited from the main lookout next to the carpark, however the view looking towards Obi Obi is stunning and there is more than one lookout to walk to. The park has a loop track as-well as an extended several kilometre walk for those that are feeling a bit more adventurous. The track is well maintained and reasonably flat throughout.
It started to rain when I was walking, but due to the thick rainforest canopy above, It hardly mattered as It provided protection for most sections of the trail. Plus it was nice to listen to the rain.
Some very big gum trees and fig trees to be seen in this park.
I managed to pick up a leech on my leg before the end of the hike but it was nothing to be concerned about though.
Parking was limited with approximately 10 spots that were mostly taken when I’d gotten there around 2pm on Sunday afternoon."

"This is a fairly diminutive (26 ha) National Park in remnant rainforest up on the range. The highlight is not the disappointingly short Woompoo circuit walk (1.6 km) but the view from alongside the falls, looking down over the beautiful Obi Obi Valley. I tried to follow the connecting Great Walk track northwards, direction Leafy Lane Overhead, but could only go partway when I ran into boggy conditions and a submerged track towards Gheerulla Creek. I guess it had been raining! 😛"

The most popular is the Wompoo Circuit, a 1.2km loop that is generally considered a gentle walk. This trail winds through the dense rainforest, offering a chance to experience the sights and sounds of the native flora and fauna. You'll be surrounded by towering trees and a vibrant undergrowth, with the thick canopy providing shade and protection from the elements. InstagramReddit

For those seeking a bit more adventure, there are connections to longer tracks, including parts of the Great Walk track. However, be aware that these extended routes can become boggy and challenging, especially after periods of rain. One reviewer mentioned encountering submerged tracks towards Gheerulla Creek when attempting to follow the Great Walk northwards. It's always wise to check trail conditions and be prepared for varying terrain if you venture beyond the main circuits. Reddit

Keep an eye out for the impressive gum trees and fig trees that are characteristic of this region. While the trails are generally well-maintained, it's not uncommon to encounter leeches, particularly after rain, so it's advisable to check yourself and your gear before and after your walk. Reddit

The Majesty of Mapleton Falls

The star attraction of Mapleton Falls National Park is, of course, the waterfall itself. While its appearance can vary significantly with rainfall, it offers a captivating spectacle. The main viewing platform provides an excellent vantage point to admire the water cascading down the rocky cliffs into the pool below. The sound of the rushing water and the fresh, crisp air contribute to a truly peaceful and serene experience. Reddit

For a more intimate encounter with the falls, some visitors have found ways to get closer to the base. By walking down the river near the entrance, it's possible to reach the first jump of the waterfall, allowing you to touch the water and gain a splendid view of the surrounding forest. This offers a different perspective than the main lookout and can be a magical experience, especially when the light filters through the trees. Reddit

It's important to note that the falls can be less dramatic during dry spells. To witness Mapleton Falls at its most powerful and impressive, timing your visit after a period of significant rainfall is highly recommended. This ensures you catch the water at its most vigorous flow. Reddit
