"Mönchsberg @ Salzburg 🌿🇦🇹
📍 Salzburg Old Town
Mönchsberg is a scenic hill and green parkland stretching along the western edge of Salzburg’s Old Town, offering some of the best elevated views over the city. The walking trail runs along the historic defence wall and is dotted with viewpoints, small gates, and cultural landmarks.
I explored Mönchsberg as part of my hike down from Fortress Hohensalzburg, first passing the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, then crossing Schartentor before reaching Humboldtterrasse. From here, panoramic vistas unfolded—the red and grey rooftops of the Altstadt, the green domes of Salzburg Cathedral, the Salzach River winding through town, and the Alps beyond.
It was surprisingly quiet along the trail, with only a few locals enjoying the park and the view, making the walk feel peaceful and unhurried. Eventually, I continued to Klausentor, took a short break at Café am Kai, crossed Müllnersteg footbridge, and returned to Mirabell Palace.
🧭 Tip: This is one of Salzburg’s best free activities. Come in the late afternoon for softer light and fewer people. Wear comfortable shoes—the trail is easy but involves some inclines and steps."

"We started our walking tour of Salzburg at the Mirabell Gardens, crossed the river walking around the Altstadt then got on the slopes of the Monchsberg climbing up the stairs at Toschaninhof & walked along the path past the modern art museum & various viewpoints all the way along the cliff edge & then down the hill crossing the river over back to the Mirabell gardens on the Mullnersteg bridge. Nice opportunities to get high various high views over the city from this walk."

"We visited the modern museum and were pleasantly surprised by the lovely views and forest walkways. You can even take your dog for a walk here. Nice castle view and interesting architectural construction where you can exercise your vocal cords and hear it echo."
