The museum is devoted to the German 38 cm SK L/45 "Max" gun and the German occupation of Koekelare and the nearby area in World War I. The focus on the German side of the war makes it a unique museum in Belgium. The museum is named after the nickname of the German gun "Lange Max", which was one of the biggest guns in the world in 1917.
The gentleman on reception took the time to explain in more detail about the site and it's significance.
Onsite Bistro was buzzing but didn't have time to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere. Very mixed crowd from young to old and the site was spotless"

"Another very interesting piece of what happened in this part of the Flanders during the first world war. The small museum is kept open by volunteers but we had a very interesting explanation by one of them, which made it even more worthwhile. The museum is small but interesting and very well done, after having visited it you can walk further on outside to where Lange Max used to be. There is a also a very nice place to have a drink and something to eat. In the whole for such a small place, it was very worthwhile to make stop!"
