What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Altun Ha is widely praised as a breathtaking and accessible Mayan ruin, offering a fantastic introduction to ancient history. Visitors love the well-maintained site, the opportunity to climb structures for great views, and the informative local guides. Some find souvenir prices a bit high, but the overall experience is highly recommended, especially with the delicious local food options nearby.
"Very well preserved Mayan city. We visited on ac cruise excursion, and it was not overcrowded even with multiple tours going on. Our guide led us around the area explaining the purpose for each temple and giving us an idea of what life was like here. You are able to climb to the top of several of the pyramids. We climbed up the Temple of Sun God, which was the tallest. The stairs are very steep, and it was raining while we were there so the stone was slippery, but the climb was well worth the views. Altún Ha is the closest Mayan ruins to the Belize City cruise port, so I highly recommend if you are wanting a quicker excursion."

"This place blew my mind. It was deeply meaningful for me. What made it for me was my type guide, George. I plan on returning and I'm only using George as guide. So knowledgeable and was so real, like we were friends for years. Very rare connection."

"This was my first ever Mayan ruins visit and I didn't know what to expect. When you first walk onto the site, it's a breath taking view of ancient culture and architecture. I really enjoyed the visit and highly recommend it. It's very easy to access, you can climb up two of the monuments, and it's exceptionally well kept."
