What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Japanese Cemetery in Cumberland to be a deeply reflective and spiritually moving place, appreciating the traditional graves and vibrant floral tributes. While the adjacent Chinese Cemetery's Feng Shui is lauded, some note a lack of sun and wind, with one visitor even petitioning the city for improvements. The strong spiritual presence of the Kami is a recurring theme, making it a site of quiet contemplation.
"Obviously, locating the Japanese Cemetery in the same compound as the Chinese Cemetery was a colonizers idea, but I think it works. The Feng shui on the Chinese side of the graveyard is a tremendous achievement that only the good lord herself could have created. While on the Japanese side, the Kami have an indelibly strong and can be felt upon entering.
My only complaint at all is the location. I find the location lacking in sun and, perhaps even more noticeable, is the lack of wind to refresh and wash the spirits that linger in this space.
I have petitioned the city to set up large fans on one side of the graveyard to help with this issue, but to no avail. They don't even reply to long drawn out overly complicated plans anymore. They have written this place off as dead,"
