What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Larch Hills Nordic Area for its beautifully maintained trails, friendly staff, and peaceful atmosphere, especially for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The option for quiet overnight RV parking is a unique bonus. Some find the dog trail restrictions on weekdays a bit limiting, and the views can be primarily forested.
"Spent a wonderful afternoon hiking 6km of the dog friendly snow show trails at this spectacular location. Beautifully kept trails, both snow shoeing and cross country skiing. Also, stayed overnight (small RV) in their very quiet and peaceful car park. Super friendly and helpful staff plus a very reasonable trail fee of $10 per person for the day."

"I was disappointed that when I went that I was only allowed on a short trail with my dog ( apparently on weekdays it's twice as long). Seems to me if you're going to only provide a tiny bit of a trail that you'd cut the fee down at least a little bit.
The views were good for a minute but then it was mostly just trees which were nice enough. The trails were well-groomed.
There are also poop scoops along the trails hung on trees to help keep the track clean and reduce the use of plastic bags and such which was kinda neat."

"Larch Hills Cross-country Ski Area, 20 km from Salmon Arm, is home to some of BC’s finest trails. With over 170 km of ski trails, 57 km of which are regularly groomed, plus a further 17km of snow shoe trails, there is no shortage of variety for the outdoor enthusiast."

Exploring the Trails: Skiing vs. Snowshoeing
It's important to note the distinction between the ski and snowshoe trails, especially regarding canine companions. While dogs are welcome on the snowshoe trails, there can be restrictions on weekdays, limiting their access to shorter routes. This policy helps maintain the integrity of the groomed ski tracks and ensures a pleasant experience for all users. Always be mindful of trail signage and etiquette to share the space harmoniously.
For those looking to extend their visit, Larch Hills also offers a peaceful overnight parking option for small RVs. This allows visitors to immerse themselves fully in the winter environment and enjoy early morning or late evening activities without the rush of a day trip. The volunteer-run organization behind Larch Hills is dedicated to providing and maintaining these fantastic recreational opportunities.
Community Spirit and Trail Maintenance
This community spirit extends to practical initiatives like the provision of poop scoops hung on trees along the trails. This thoughtful touch helps keep the area clean and encourages responsible pet ownership, reducing the need for plastic bags and minimizing environmental impact. It’s a small detail that reflects a larger ethos of care and respect for the natural surroundings and fellow users.
The trail fee of $10 per person per day directly contributes to these maintenance efforts. This fee is crucial for covering the costs associated with grooming equipment, trail clearing, and general upkeep. For those who frequent Larch Hills, purchasing a season pass is a highly recommended and cost-effective way to support the area while enjoying unlimited access throughout the season.
