"Huaxiang Christian Church is located in the most prosperous Dongjiekou area in Fuzhou City, with convenient transportation (No. 7, Huaxiang, 817 North Road). It is one of the most important churches in Fuzhou City, the activity center of Huaxiang Christian Church, and an important hub for provincial and municipal Christian churches.
Huaxiang Christian Church has a history of 86 years. Christianity was officially introduced to Fuzhou around 1840. "Huaxiang Church" was originally named "Shangyou Church" and is one of the Methodist Churches in Fuzhou. In 1915, the Methodist Episcopal Church bought this place to build a church for social needs, so it was named "Shangyou Church" because it meant "social church". During the Qing Dynasty, it was the palace of the Manchu bureaucrat Ryukyu "King" "Zhao Xin"; during the Xinhai Revolution, the Fujian Revolutionary Army Headquarters was also established here. On September 5, 1915, the church held the first baptism ceremony for Protestants, and in 1938 it was rebuilt into the only granite wall chapel in Fuzhou City."
