What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Summit One Vanderbilt for its innovative, mirrored exhibits and breathtaking panoramic views of the NYC skyline, especially during sunset. The unique 'Affinity' installation and the overall immersive experience are frequently highlighted as major draws. However, some find the ticket prices steep and note that certain areas can become very crowded, impacting the experience.
"Be prepared for a shock if you think this is a new hotel. It is not. They have a new wing that we booked but it is basic local inn standard at best. The heated floor is a plus but there is nothing else great to say about the room.
The manager is a good person. If you need anything do look for him. The counter staff are rude.
Location is good. Very close to the puxian temple. Local food selection is available around there."
Roger Tan
"Will need to start from the tourist bus stop as you can't take your own ride. All uphill for 1 hour, then walk on pathway for another 2 km to the cable car. Then take the cable filled with 100 passengers - luckily short one. Then walk to the summit. It was raining with wind on that day and could not see much. On the way down it was nice and clear. Many food stalls along and the path way is well made for walking."

"The walls are mottled and moldy, and so is the floor... The overall environment makes me feel uncomfortable...

Navigating the Summit Experience
Beyond the initial observation decks, the experience includes immersive rooms with mirrored surfaces that create a feeling of infinite space. These areas, like 'Affinity,' are designed to be highly photogenic and offer a surreal perspective of the cityscape. Visitors are encouraged to explore every nook and cranny on each floor to ensure they don't miss any of the curated installations or breathtaking vistas. The entire experience is designed to be interactive and visually stimulating, offering a fresh take on traditional observation decks.
Pro-tip: While the views are stunning at any time, many recommend timing your visit for sunset. The $10 premium for sunset slots is often considered worth it for the magical light show as the city transitions from day to night. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, as you'll be doing a fair amount of walking and standing. Avoid dresses, as they can be impractical for the environment.
Capturing the Perfect Shot
When shooting the skyline, consider the time of day. Golden hour, just before sunset, provides warm, soft light that enhances the city's beauty. Sunset itself offers dramatic colors, while the post-sunset 'blue hour' provides a magical glow as the city lights begin to twinkle. The first floor is where you'll find the most iconic, wide-angle shots of the Empire State Building and other landmarks. Be patient, as this area can get crowded, and wait for your moment to capture the perfect frame.
Photography Tips:
* Embrace the reflections: Use the mirrored surfaces to your advantage for creative shots.
* Vary your shots: Capture wide cityscapes, close-ups of architectural details, and candid moments.
* Consider your outfit: While comfort is key, a visually appealing outfit can complement the surroundings. However, avoid dresses due to practicality.
* Check camera policies: While personal cameras are usually fine, confirm any restrictions on professional equipment.
