What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Volio Waterfall is praised for its stunning natural beauty and powerful energy, offering a magical experience for visitors. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns about scams, including aggressive tactics by unofficial guides and parking attendants demanding exorbitant fees, and even reports of armed robbery. Visitors strongly advise caution and recommend guided tours for safety.
"SCAM!!!
We visited the waterfall yesterday too. A guy with his family met us at the parking spot. They said it is neccessary to go with a local to the waterfall because of "bandidos with a gun". The woman walked with us 20min to the waterfall, we took a picture and returned back to the car. We arrived after 40min our car again and the woman wanted 40.000Colones from us. We was super suprised and said we only have 6.000... They took the 6.000 and we left as fast as we can... Felt super unconfortable.
The waterfall is beautiful. But the business what the guy with his family makes is discusting. Dont visit this place by your own!
The lady on the picture is responsible for the scam."

"I love these waterfalls. Very powerful healing energy but, ironically and sadly, there have been many MANY regular incidences of GUNPOINT PHONE THEFT on the way walking down the little path to get to the waterfall. NOT SAFE TO GO! Especially alone or just two people. Sad, sad, sad."

"Do not come here on your own! Parked at the parking spot where you are supposed to pay $2,000 colones, walked 100 yards past the first river and was robbed and gun point with our baby at 11am. The parking attendant was gone when we went back just a few minutes later. I highly recommend skipping these falls unless you are with a tour!!"
