What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Dubrovnik Cable Car for its absolutely stunning panoramic views of the Old City and the Adriatic Sea, especially during sunset. While some find the ticket price a bit steep, most agree the experience and the breathtaking scenery are well worth the cost. The war museum at the top also receives positive mentions for its informative content.
"Expensive but worth the money! I think kids should be under 16 though, not under 12. We have teenagers and so €30 per person return becomes really expensive for the family.
Not too long to wait, even in August!
I recommend eating at the restaurant at the top. It is well worth the money for the fantastic view and the food is good.
I also recommend visiting the war museum at the top, which we all found very informative and I found actually that my teenagers could relate to this more easily than the world wars, since it was relatively recent. It is so shocking to see images of Dubrovnik under attack.
The views from the top of the cable car are of course fantastic."

"Gorgeous views over Dubrovnik. Sunset was amazing from the top. Walk a little towards the left (cable car behind you) to find some beautiful nature and even better views. We also bumped into a herd of goats. Queue down after sunset was almost 1h, right before no queue whatsoever (neither up or down)."

"Never stop to listen to the people standing there offering to drive you to the best location to make the best pics from the top of the mountain . This you can do yourself once you arrive there. Besides, from the gondole you enjoy a marvelous 360 grade sight of Dubrovnik as you slowly go up. There's nothing you can substitute with to this experience.. Enjoy and prepare your cam :-)"

🚇 🗺️ Getting There
The cable car station is conveniently located near the Ploče Gate entrance to the Old City. You can easily walk there from most accommodations within or near the Old Town. Taxis are also readily available.
Parking directly at the cable car station is limited. It's recommended to use public parking garages within or near the Old City and then walk to the station. The nearest major parking is at the Pile Gate.
Yes, several local bus lines stop near the Old City entrances, from where you can walk to the cable car station. Check local bus routes for the most convenient option from your location.
The cable car cabins are generally stable and smooth, making them friendly even for those with a fear of heights. The station areas are also designed for accessibility, though it's always good to confirm specific needs.
To avoid the longest queues, aim to visit early in the morning or about an hour before sunset. Traveling during the shoulder seasons (spring or fall) can also significantly reduce wait times.
🎫 🎫 Tickets & Entry
The cable car is considered a bit overpriced by some visitors, with a return ticket costing around €30 per person. Family tickets can add up quickly for those with teenagers.
Yes, you can purchase tickets online in advance, which can sometimes save you time waiting in line at the ticket booth. However, some visitors have reported short waits even when buying on-site.
While specific discount policies can change, some reviews mention children under 16 or 12 may have different pricing. It's best to check the official Dubrovnik Cable Car website for the most current age-based pricing information.
Operating hours vary seasonally and are weather-dependent. It's crucial to check the official Dubrovnik Cable Car website for the most up-to-date schedule before your visit, especially if planning a sunset trip.
The Dubrovnik Pass can be a good value if you plan to visit multiple museums and attractions. If your primary interest is just the cable car and city walls, paying separately might be more economical, though the pass often includes the walls.

The entire ascent offers stunning 360-degree views. From the top, walk slightly to the left (with the cable car behind you) for even more dramatic vistas of the Old Town and coastline.
Absolutely! Sunset provides incredible golden hour light that transforms the city and sea into a breathtaking spectacle. Be prepared for crowds and potentially longer waits to descend afterwards.

The 'golden hours' around sunrise and sunset offer the most dramatic and flattering light. Midday can be harsh, but still provides clear views of the city's architecture.
🍽️ 🍽️ Food & Dining
Yes, there is a restaurant at the summit offering fantastic views. Many visitors recommend dining there for the experience, noting the food is good and the panorama is well worth the price.
The restaurant typically serves a range of dishes, often including local Croatian cuisine and international options. It's a great spot for a meal with an unparalleled view.
While the main restaurant offers a full dining experience, there might be smaller cafes or snack bars available. However, prices at the summit are generally higher due to the location.
While not explicitly prohibited, it's generally expected that visitors will patronize the on-site dining facilities. Bringing snacks for personal consumption might be acceptable, but a full picnic is unlikely to be appropriate.
This depends on your preference and budget. Eating at the top offers a unique experience, but you can also find numerous dining options within the Old City before or after your ride.

The Ascent Experience
Upon arrival at the summit, visitors are greeted with expansive views that stretch for miles. It's recommended to take a moment to soak in the scenery from the main viewing platforms. For even more spectacular and less crowded vantage points, take a short walk towards the left of the cable car station, with the station behind you. This area often reveals stunning natural landscapes and, as some lucky visitors have discovered, even herds of goats. The summit also hosts a restaurant and a war museum, adding layers of experience beyond just the views.
Maximizing Your Visit: Timing and Tips
While the cable car offers incredible views, it comes with a notable price tag, which can be a concern for families with teenagers. Consider if the Dubrovnik Pass might offer better value if you plan to visit other attractions, as it often includes access to the city walls, which provide their own set of stunning views. Remember that the cable car's operation is weather-dependent, so always check the forecast and operational status before your visit, as high winds or lightning can cause temporary closures.
