What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Punta Suárez is overwhelmingly praised for its incredible, up-close wildlife encounters, particularly the albatrosses and blue-footed boobies. Visitors highlight the unique breeding behaviors and the dramatic coastal scenery. Some note the challenging, rocky terrain and the intense sun exposure, emphasizing the need for proper gear and hydration.
"Our tour group had Punta Suarez to ourselves for a sunny morning hike in early summer. We were thankful for our hiking poles, sunscreen and sturdy boots. Along the trail, we were only footsteps away from a cluster of blue-footed boobies honking, touching beaks and courting. A male booby brought straw to prove he’d be a good mate. We walked by albatrosses nesting with their eggs. The trail was a steady uphill scramble over rocks to a scenic cliff with crashing waves. Pelicans and Nazca boobies flew along the cliffs. The best part was watching a sea lion scramble up the rock cliff, then flop on rocks to rest and bask in the sun. Espanola was also a prime island for seeing lava lizards, plus marine and land iguanas. On our hike back, we admired the reddish-tinged Galapagos carpet that spread
to the horizon. Our return panga landed not far from a beached ship that’s been there for years. It ran aground because the pilot was sleeping with the ship on autopilot. A sudden fierce storm threw the boat onto the rocky coast. Note that there are no restrooms and it's a carry in/carry out national park."

"This was so good!!! We came here from San Cristobal after 2 hrs boat ride and the guide showed us the way around the island. Bird colonies that you usually only see ok Discovery channel were 5 m away. Albatross, boobies and so many different animals to see. On the way we even saw Whales from our boat. Bring sunblock!!! Sunscreen isn't enough since there is no place to hide from the sun"

"Came here October 2017 with Guiding Galapagos and Espanola may just be my favorite place in the Galapagos. It is so interesting and all the unique wildlife, specifically the albatross, is just amazing to see. We took about a one hour speed boat ride from San Cristobal after wiping our feet before even getting on our boat to not contaminate Espanola. Our naturalist guide walked with us for about 2 hours and talked to us about the island and the animals. We saw sea lions pretty close to us and tons of marine iguanas, lava lizards, mockingbird, galapagos dove, nazca boobies, red bill tropicbird, albatross, galapagos hawk. We walked within feet of Nazca boobies because of where they were standing on the path. Saw albatross dance, baby albatross, some albatross out in the water, and one albatross even run and take off like a plane! There is also a neat blow hole here, but the landscape here is just amazing!"
