"A beautiful, peaceful setting, landscaped cemetery with many elevation changes and a splendid view of the Seine and the southern suburbs of Rouen.
The most visible grave in the cemetery is that of José-Maria de HEREDIA (1842-1905). Born in Cuba, he settled in France in 1861 and began composing poems heavily influenced by the Parnassian movement. His major work consists of 118 sonnets collected in a volume, the Trophées. He was elected to the Académie Française in 1894.
With him lie his mother, Louise Girard d'Houville (1807-1877), who was a writer, his daughter Hélène (1871-1953), and her husband Maurice MAINDRON (1857-1911), who was an author of swashbuckling novels and a lover of India. Also buried here is Raoul ECHARD (1883-1922), a French flying ace from the Great War who flew seven victorious aerial combat missions. He commanded the famous Cigognes squadron, but died during an air show (his right wing detached and the plane nosedived).
Also present is Father Jacques Hamel (1930-2016), assassinated during the attack on the church of Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray in July 2016. He rests in the collective tomb of priests."
