Auerbach, Germany. First built by King Charlemagne, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, this castle had two sets of walls and controlled an important trading route along an ancient Roman mountain road. In 1674, the castle was conquered and set on fire by the French. I'll post more in the comments.

Souvenirs Bensheim?
Does anyone know where one can buy souvenirs in Bensheim? Preferably magnets or postcards? I know I'm old-fashioned but collect magnets/postcards for my fridge and Google is NOT being helpful

"One of the loveliest castles I have seen in the region.. Offers an excellent view, irrespective of the weather, it is worth the while to visit this place. On a clear day you might catch sight of the planes landing at the frankfurt airport. On an autumn day, the riot of colours is breathtaking!"
Amit Vaidya
"Delightful little castle overlooking a beautiful small little town. Dating back to the 1200's, this place has more history than you can shake an axe at! Open to the public and an easy walk, I would check it out if you're in the area. Won't take, it's not the largest but it is fun. Sometimes the beer garden is open... Sometimes not."
