Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Rennsteig Trail for its stunning natural beauty, particularly the mystical Drachenschlucht. The well-maintained paths and available shelters are appreciated for multi-day hikes. However, some find the inclines challenging, and luggage weight can be an issue for longer treks.

"Wonderful nature reserve one of the oldest parkmof the world founded in the 19th century this truely is a pearl"

"Good run for everyone who has set the goal of running the Rennsteig. Don't underestimate the inclines, pay attention to the weight of your luggage (15 kg is too much in my opinion 😉), and don't overdo it with the longer daytime hikes. There are many wide gravel paths, some of which have been freshly graveled. All of the shelters are generally suitable for sleeping. The biggest differences lie in their overall size. Rule of thumb: the deeper into the forest, the less trash there is in each hut. A good friend and I thought it was a good idea to tackle the Rennsteig in 5 days without any training. Spoiler alert: we abandoned the hike on the third day after 86 km due to the physical exhaustion of our fellow hiker. Since this was also my first "long-distance hike," I have no comparison and can't comment on the quality of the actual trail compared to other long-distance trails. Therefore, the 5 stars are based on the good infrastructure along the trail, at least up to half of the Rennsteig. We'll tackle the rest next year. "Good running!" 🥾"
