Just keep walking east past the harbour to get to this location?
Hello everyone. I’m sure this is probably asked often so sorry in advance but I’m staying in Chania, which is absolutely beautiful by the way. I’m looking for some recommendations for places to eat dinner. Thanks :)
I’ve tried Oinóa which was amazing but a little bit expensive, now I’m looking for somewhere cheaper to eat, somewhere where locals would go. All recommendations are appreciated. Cheers :)

Frequently Asked Questions
🚇 🗺️ Getting There
Koum Kapi is easily accessible on foot from Chania's Old Town. It's located just east of the Venetian Harbor, a pleasant 5-10 minute walk along the waterfront. You can't miss it as you head east from the harbor.
Parking in the immediate vicinity can be challenging, especially during peak evening hours. It's best to park in one of the public parking lots in Chania town and walk over. Consider the Municipal Market parking lot.
While walking is the most common method, local buses do serve the wider Chania area. However, for direct access to Koum Kapi from within Chania, walking or a short taxi ride is most convenient.
🎫 🎫 Tickets & Entry
No, Koum Kapi is a public quarter of Chania and there is no entrance fee. You are free to wander its streets and enjoy the atmosphere.
Koum Kapi is always accessible as it's a public area. However, the cafes, bars, and restaurants typically open in the late afternoon and stay open late into the night, especially during the summer season.
For popular restaurants, especially on weekend evenings, booking a table in advance is highly recommended to avoid disappointment. For more casual cafes, walk-ins are usually fine.
🎫 🧭 Onsite Experience
Koum Kapi has a lively, buzzing atmosphere, particularly in the evenings. It's a popular spot for locals to socialize, enjoy drinks, and dine, offering a more relaxed and authentic feel compared to some parts of the Old Town.
Koum Kapi is primarily known for its numerous cafes, bars, and tavernas. You'll find fewer souvenir shops here and more places to relax and enjoy the local scene.
While it's a great place for adults to enjoy the evening, it can get quite busy and loud. Families might prefer visiting earlier in the evening or exploring other areas of Chania for daytime activities.
🍽️ 🍽️ Food & Dining
Recommendations vary, but many praise Oinóoa for its quality, though it can be pricier. For more local and budget-friendly options, look for traditional tavernas slightly off the main waterfront.
You'll find a wide range of Cretan and Greek cuisine, from fresh seafood and traditional mezes to grilled meats. Many places offer excellent local wines and raki.
Most tavernas will have vegetarian options like Greek salads, vegetable mezes, and pasta dishes. It's always a good idea to ask your server about vegan possibilities, as many dishes can be adapted.
Prices can vary significantly. High-end restaurants on the waterfront might be more expensive, while smaller, local tavernas offer more budget-friendly choices. Expect to pay around €15-€30 per person for a main meal at a mid-range place.
