Reviews Summary

Avlaki Beach is a stunning, albeit officially closed, pebble beach on Hydra known for its incredibly clear waters and scenic beauty. Visitors often bypass the closure to enjoy swimming and jumping platforms, but should be aware of the risks and lack of facilities. It's a popular spot for its natural charm and refreshing sea, though water shoes are highly recommended. Reddit

"Nice little nook in Hydra for a swim. The beach is pebbles so if you have water shoes bring them. The water is clear and beautiful. It’s public beach. No charge but also no chairs or facilities. If you are coming to hydra for a day trip you can spend som time here to take a dip! There is a gate blocking you from walking down the mountain(cliff). It didn’t stop people from climbing over. Not for people with mobility issues or if you are scared of walking down rocky steps. Short 5-7 min walk from the cruise or ferry stop."

"I love this beach so much! The scenery, the view, it's close to town (few minutes walking), only thing to notice that the door to the path heading down is now closed and you have to bypass a small rocky fence but otherwise, my top!"

kostas papageorge

"Beautiful beach.

It's been officially closed for 18 months due to a rock slide but the locked gate doesn't stop plenty of swimmers jumping the low wall and taking the steps to the lovely swimming spot.

Wear your swimming shoes, those pebbles hurt 😂"

👨‍👩‍👧 Families with Kids

Avlaki Beach on Hydra can be a fun spot for families, but requires careful consideration. The pebble beach and the unofficial access due to closure mean it's not ideal for very young children or those with mobility issues. However, for families with elementary-aged children who are comfortable with a short, slightly adventurous walk and can manage pebble terrain (water shoes are a must!), it offers beautiful, clear waters for swimming. Reddit

It's important to pack all necessities, including snacks, drinks, and sun protection, as there are no facilities. The short distance from Hydra town makes it manageable for a day trip. Parents should supervise children closely, especially around the water and the rocky areas. The 'swim at your own risk' nature of the beach means extra vigilance is key. Reddit

This makes it an ideal spot for a picnic lunch and a swim without spending extra money. The short walk from the port also means no additional transport costs are incurred to reach the beach. Just remember to pack smart and be self-sufficient. Reddit

The short walk from Hydra town adds to the charm, making it an accessible, albeit unofficial, destination for a refreshing swim.
