Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva Temple for its deeply peaceful atmosphere and spiritual vibes, highlighting its ancient history and the presence of numerous deities. Many find it a serene and fulfilling place for worship and reflection, appreciating its well-maintained grounds and traditional Kerala architecture.

"Visited Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva Temple and it was a wonderful experience. The temple is peaceful, well-maintained, and full of spiritual vibes. Very happy to spend time here."

"I was fortunate to visit this centuries-old family temple of the Chera dynasty, located at Kodungalloor.
This is the only Thevaram Paadal Petra Shiva temple in Kerala. This temple was once looted by the Dutch and by Tipu. As of now it is managed by the Cochin Devaswom Board but remains under the control of the Archaeological Department of India.

The main deity is Sri Siva in the Sada Siva form, and the temple houses 33 upadevatas, including Parvati Devi, Durga Bhagavathi, Bhadrakali, Ganga Devi, Ganapati, Ayyappan, Subrahmanya, Hanuman, Saptamatas, Veerabhadra, Chandikeswaran, Naga deities, Unnithevar (Siva Bhootham), Bhringirathi, Cheraman Perumal, Sundaramurthi Nayanar. Out 33, 11 deities represent different forms (bhavams) of Siva. The temple’s peaceful atmosphere, and divine presence fill the heart with a deep sense of calm and devotion
Since this was my first visit, I may not have followed all the proper rituals, but I have pledged to return, God willing. As per tradition when visiting Mahadeva temples, I performed Dhara and Pinvilakku offerings.

The temple is easily accessible as it is located on State Highway 51 (SH51), close to the Kodungalloor temple. You can reach it by driving or using public transport from Ernakulam (Cochin) or Thrissur. Nearest airport is Cochin International Airport (Nedumbassery), approx 60 km away. While Irinjalakuda is the closest railway station, Thrissur serves as the nearest major rail hub

Temple timings:
Morning: 5:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Evening: 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM
For more details on the temple’s history, significance, festivals, and offerings, please visit the official temple website."

"Very nice temple in kerala. This the place where Cheraman Perumal, the legendary king of Kerala, is believed to have visited ‘Kailasa’ with his companion Saiva saint, Sundaramoorthi Nayanar from this temple premises. This event is celebrated by the Tamil community on ‘Swathi’ asterism day of Malayalam month ‘Karkatakam’ in this temple even now."
