"Threatened to not provide certificate.
Biased with Indians.
The first day I went to the class I saw there was no teacher and other students have already done their sun salutation A and B even though I was on time. I got confused if I have to start at my own or someone is going to tell the necessary information about everyday sessions. After 20 minutes teacher Saraswati ji and Sharmila came. Sharmila is the rudest person I have even seen. She asked me from where you have learned and I said- from Rishikesh. She said in Rishikesh there are no authentic teachers. 🤐
She stopped me doing after half series and asked me to end the class. It was continue for 3 weeks just because I was not able to do Marichasana D. I told her I have got some rotator cuff issue few months back and she can give me any other variation to practice so that I can do it. She has no ideaof anatomy. They don't have any idea about muscle elasticity limit. If you look at sharmila you can easily judge that she never practice yoga at her own. She take 2 minutes to sit on the floor because of her heavy body. She pulled me at marichasana D and everytime I get cramp and make me worst.
Saraswati ji is old and much depending on volunteers. I decided to spoke to Saraswati ji and I told her everything about the cramps and rudeness by Sharmila. And look what I got 🙄
Saraswati ji said you will not get certificate if you don't do the same. I said I am here for knowledge not for certificate. She got surprised with my statement. I have all my feedback on their face only.
I heard from other students too that they don't like there but in front of gurus they pretend to be super nice and always in their feet.
I end up after 20 days. Someone recommend me to join Sachidananda institute . joined there just for my last 7 days and I have learned a lot and a lot. The respected teacher has showed me different variation to achieve the flexibility and strength. And in 4 days I was able to do most of thhe asana 🫠😊.
He is so humble and kind. He shares the knowledge.
.
People join pattabhi jois institute because of certification and authenticity of Ashtanga yoga and they are taking advantage of this.
There is no explanation of body alignments, adjustments, muscle imbalance, joint mobility, muscle flexibility etc.
You know what it was my dream since 7 years to go to pattabhi jois institute but I was dreaming wrong 🤭"

"I am an Indian woman from Bengaluru and I have been practising with Sharmila ma'am and Saraswati Ji in Mysore.. I am blessed to have such divine women in my life as my yoga gurus.
Ashtanga Yoga is the toughest and these two women stand tall to teach the world wide students who throng to them from far and wide, they follow the Mysore style of teaching and any student is blessed to be under their guidance.
Yoga is a way of life and being in their 80 s and 50 s , they are such strong women still correcting poses and training teachers from all over world.
It is a legendary school and these two women are goddesses.
There is no bias in them towards Indians and foreigners and are totally non commercial school compared to other schools in Bangalore and Mysore.
People who are commercial and want to make money out of half knowledge in yoga quit the classes because it's tough and have no patience for learning."

The Ashtanga Vinyasa System
At KPJAYI, the primary method of teaching is Mysore-style. This means students practice the Ashtanga sequence at their own pace, in a group setting, with individual guidance and adjustments from the teacher. This approach allows for personalized attention, enabling practitioners to deepen their understanding and refine their poses according to their own capabilities and progress. It's a stark contrast to a led class where the teacher calls out the poses.
The institute emphasizes the sacredness of the practice. It's not just about physical postures but a holistic yogic path. Visitors are encouraged to approach their practice with reverence, discipline, and a commitment to learning. This dedication is what many practitioners find most rewarding, leading to profound physical and mental transformation.
Navigating Practice and Teachers
Other respected teachers at the institute include Saraswati Ji and her daughter Sharmila Mahesh. They are highly experienced and have been teaching Ashtanga for decades. While their teaching style is described as strict and demanding by some, others praise their deep knowledge and commitment to the Ashtanga path. It's important to approach their instruction with an open mind and a willingness to be challenged.
It's worth noting that some reviews mention potential challenges, such as feeling confused as a beginner or experiencing strictness from certain teachers. However, many practitioners find the experience deeply transformative and value the authenticity of the teaching. The key is to understand that this is a traditional institute focused on the Ashtanga practice itself, and adherence to its principles is expected.
