What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Narthamalai for its powerful goddess and ancient rock-cut temples, offering a glimpse into Chola history and Jain heritage. The scenic natural surroundings and opportunities for light trekking are also highlighted. However, some reviews mention issues with temple cleanliness and pressure for donations from priests.
"Recently visited this place to seek blessings from the powerful goddess. Temple needs cleaning for sure, there is no proper maintenance at all. Government should consider funding this temple to get the cleaning done. In and around, you can actually see the greenish fields and enjoy the village feel. Recommended for people in and around pudukkotai to seek her blessing and can also enjoy the small trekking near by."

"Powerful goddess and of the must visit temple in Pudukkottai. Over can go through bus or by own vehicle. If we go by bus we need to take auto from the bus stop. Spacious parking, garland shops and place for tonsure are available. People should be more careful as lot of monkeys are there to trouble us. So better not go with eatables. Can feel the vibrations from the goddess. Nowadays temple is not clean due to monkeys.
Drawback:
Gurukkal from the temple keep asking us to give amount which is really irritating."

"The second Sunday of the month of Panguni is the Poochorithal festival , the third Sunday is the Kapukku-Kathi festival, and the ninth day is the Chariot Festival . Four time pujas are performed here: Kalasandhi (8.00 am), Uchikaalam (12.00 noon), Sayaratchai (6.00 pm), and Arthasamam (8.30 pm). Devotees can witness the arrival of the goddess in a golden chariot on the days of Tamil and English New Year, Vijaya Dashami, Deepavali, and Pongal. The largest number of devotees visit on Tuesdays and Fridays."
