Reviews Summary

Visitors find Talakadu a captivating blend of history, mystery, and natural beauty, with the sand-buried temples and the legend of the curse being major draws. The spiritual significance of the Vaidyeshwara Temple and the Panchalinga sites is highly appreciated, offering a peaceful and memorable experience. While the walking on sand can be challenging, the overall historical and cultural immersion makes it a highly recommended destination.

"I visited Talakadu yesterday, and it was a truly memorable experience! This place beautifully blends history, mystery, and natural charm. Known for its buried temples and mythological significance, Talakadu feels like stepping into a storybook from the past.

Walking through the sandy paths and discovering ancient temples partly submerged in sand was both fascinating and surreal. Each temple has its own story, and the aura around them is peaceful and spiritual. The Vaidyanatheshwara Temple is especially impressive with its intricate architecture and serene surroundings.

Apart from its historical value, Talakadu is also naturally stunning. The greenery around and the nearby Kaveri River made the atmosphere so relaxing. I spent time just enjoying the breeze and soaking in the calmness. The place wasn’t too crowded, because I visited on Monday which made the visit even more enjoyable.

Whether you’re a history lover, a nature enthusiast, or just someone looking for a peaceful day trip with friends or family, Talakadu is a perfect weekend getaway. I came back feeling refreshed and a little more connected to Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage. Highly recommend visiting this hidden gem!"

"A truly fascinating temple with rich historical significance. Talakadu Shri Vaidhyanatheshwara Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the Pancha Linga temples in the region. The architecture and stone carvings are beautiful and transport you back to ancient times.

I visited this temple as part of the KSRTC Gaganachukki package from Bangalore, which was well-organized and included a knowledgeable guide. The guide explained the intriguing history linked to the Mysore royal family, Queen Alamelamma, and the curse that led to Talakadu being buried under sand.

The temple is associated with the famous “curse of Talakadu,” where five sacred Shiva temples, including this one, were reportedly submerged by sand over centuries. Even today, some of these temples are still partially or completely buried under sand, adding a mysterious aura to the entire place.

The connection between the Chamundi Temple in Mysore, the Wodeyar kings, and Talakadu’s sand story was very well explained by the guide. The five temples (Pancha Linga) and their alignment are also quite unique and spiritually significant.

A must-visit if you’re interested in ancient temples, legends, and offbeat heritage sites in Karnataka."

"A very calm and beautiful architectural marvel. The site has an outer pathway that takes you around seven different temples, with guides available (though I didn’t ask about the charges). Once you complete the circuit, you return to your starting point. The atmosphere is peaceful with minimal noise, and horse rides are also available here. However, prices near the temple are quite high, so it’s best to carry your own food and water. Near to this temple kaveri river flows you can enjoy with your family!

The name Talakadu is believed to have originated from two hunters, Tala and Kada, after which several dynasties went on to develop this area."
