What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often praise Ashdod Port for its impressive scale and efficiency, especially when arriving by cruise ship. The port's illuminated appearance at night is frequently highlighted as a breathtaking sight. However, the strict security measures and the inability for independent exploration within the port are noted drawbacks.
"God bless Israel, bless you and bless the world. I felt blessed arriving Israel for the first time by sea. To Jerusalem, the dead sea and to Haifa. This land and the people are 5star ❤️and myself, I'm countless star. Self love. 🇮🇱 ❤️"

"Port on the easternmost part of the mediterranean sea. I've been there twice, both times cruising on a Grimaldi cargo ship.
Large and very busy port, most of israeli freight passes from here. Had the occasion to buy at the duty free area on behalf of some of ship's crewmembers, duty free area was really chaotic (2015) but very well supplied of almost everything. Being an Israeli port security checks were very accurate and time consuming, but customs and security officers were really professional, no harassments from them. Anyway better not to wander along piers, either because of heavy traffic of trucks and because security guards were everywhere.
There was(I asked to Master to summon them) a taxi service to and from Jerusalem, price was about 50 $ per person."

"Massive port that is well run and efficient. Boarding our cruise and getting through customs was easy and simple."

The Role of Ashdod Port in Regional Events
While these incidents are significant, they are distinct from the port's primary function as a major commercial and cargo hub. The port handles a vast amount of Israel's freight and is a key entry point for goods and travelers. Understanding this dual nature – its operational importance and its role in current events – provides a more complete picture of Ashdod Port.
Cruise Passenger Experience at Ashdod Port
Arranging transportation from the port is a key consideration. Taxis to Jerusalem are a popular option, with prices often cited around $50 per person. While independent exploration within the port itself is restricted due to its operational nature and security, the focus for cruise passengers is on the seamless transition to exploring the wider region. The efficiency of boarding and disembarking, along with professional customs and security services, contributes to a positive visitor experience.
Port Operations and Security
Security is a paramount concern at Ashdod Port, reflecting its strategic importance. Visitors can expect accurate and thorough security checks, which can be time-consuming but are handled professionally by customs and security officers. Independent access to the piers is restricted to ensure safety and operational integrity, given the heavy traffic of trucks and other port machinery. This robust security framework is a standard feature of major international ports.
